Missoula is a rapidly growing town in Western Montana. The town's population was 58,263 in 1970 and was pushing 110,000 in 2010.
The main reason for the population increase is simply people wanting to live in a beautiful valley on the Clarks Fork River in the Western Rockies.
The county has easy access to the Bitterroot National Forest, Flathead National Forest, Lolo National Forest and Rattlesnake National Recreation Area.
Industries include forestry, mining, agriculture and recreation.
Missoula is the historic home of Native American tribes including the Salish (mistakenly called the Flathead). The Lewis and Clark Expedition visited "Traveler's Rest" September 9-11, 1805 and again on June 30-July 3, 1806.
